Welcome To

Shires Farms

Shires Farms whole farming operation is based around Newport Pagnell, Sherington, Emberton, Broughton, Hanslope and Preston Capes. Due to sporadic blocks of land, we farm all types of soils from a light ‘sandy-loam’ to ‘Hanslope bolder-clay’.

We have a predominantly mixed arable and livestock farming practice, farming our own acreage alongside other contracted/ rented land.

We have a flock of 1100 ‘Easy-Care’ breeding ewes. These are lambed in April and we aim to ‘finish’ and sell all the lambs within the same year. Our flock grazes predominantly on permanent pasture and parkland grass, although the lambs are finished using grass-clover leys which we mix into the arable rotation.

Up until 10 years ago we had a milking herd of 250 head of Holstein-Friesian cattle. This has allowed us to diversify and convert some shed space into storage where possible, and the remainder (larger cattle sheds) have become additional grain storage.

We built a 4,000t grain store two years ago which is equip with a drying floor and stirrers to mix and blend the grain as necessary, enabling us to store the grain 16 feet high and this has been a huge success.
